This morning I launched myself out of bed to officially start my trainig programme for Dublin City Marathon(DCM) 2017!
I did my first marathon in Dublin in 2011 with a time of 3 hours 30 minutes. I was thrilled with this time, it was my goal time. Of course it was tough, it wasnt meant to be easy otherwise it wasnt a challenge. My second marathon in 2013 Great Limerick Run with a time of 3 hours 23 minutes! Again I was thrilled as my goal time was between 3.25 and 3.30! PERFECT!! My third marathon in 2014 was cancelled due to extreme winter weather conditions, luckily I hadnt travelled to the town, although my car was packed, ready to go but I was advised not to drive and I am so glad I didnt as the race was called off just an hour before start time! With this on my mind I reckon I have unfinished business with this marathon malarky! So Dublin it is!
I follow Hal Higdons programme, I find them very doable(!!) and practical. I wouldnt say easy as it is a big commitmnet but it certainly is manageable with work and domestic life. Also I know more runners these days and there is always somebody about for a run. I run with Limerick Country Club and this year there is quite a few runners registered for DCM 2017.... we wil do it together and wear our club colours with pride!
You will find the programme that I follow here www.halhigdon.com , intermediate 2 programme. The cross training I do is a HIIT class in Fitroom, Corbally, Limerick.
I will keep you posted on my progress!
